I Miss You: Frank Ocean v. Beyonce Knowles

I Miss You: Frank Ocean v. Beyonce Knowles (By, April W.)

“Who do you think performs it better?” I’ve been witnessing much debate on the topic of who performs/sings I Miss You better, Frank Ocean or Beyonce Knowles, for months. A lot of people side with Queen Bey, probably because her musical influence isn’t to be questioned, just as plenty of others agree that Frank Ocean’s passionate vocals leave Beyonce’s performance in the dust.

In the New York Times article, entitled Creating His Own Gravity, published on July 4, 2012, Frank Ocean admits that the song brought Beyonce to tears, and the fact that it brought her to tears nearly brought him to some too.

“She came in and heard the song, and she shed a tear and recorded it,” he recalled, “and I wanted to shed a tear.” (read full article here)

Beyonce’s live performance of I Miss You isn’t as genuine, as she sings in front of a background of narcissistic personal images of herself, whereas Frank’s is genuinely passionate as you can see the emotion escaping from his being as he performs it to the audience very intimately with nothing else on stage, but him and his keyboard.

You all should take the time to watch Bey’s Live Performance here, and then Frank’s live performance here (if you haven’t seen them yet), and let me know who wins.

jazmynejack asked: do you think the pyramids video is going to reflect the song ? and if so how do you think it will play out

i think that the pyramids video will certainly reflect the song. there’s no guessing how it will play out though. frank ocean’s video treatments are all artistically diverse/assorted. take ‘thinking about you for example,’ the video was stunning to me, although it reflected the lyrics it wasn’t what i, or anyone else i’m sure, expected. then there’s the ‘novacane’ video which was, contrarily, perfect, he was there using his drug and the visuals of the women were faded which conspicuously reflected the fact of him not being able to feel love/or anything else for that matter.

lol i went into wayyy too much detail with this, conclusively, we’ll all just have to wait patiently and see just how the video (if there shall be one) plays out.

thanks for your question! xx
