Converse’s Three Artists, One Song series has brought many artists together for collaborations in the past: Gorillaz, James Murphy, and André 3000; Best Coast, Rostam Batmanglij, and Kid Cudi; Matt & Kim, Andrew W.K., and Soulja Boy; Julian Casablancas, Pharrell, and Santigold; Hot Chip, Bernard Sumner, and Hot City.
Today, they’ve announced that Frank Ocean, Diplo, and the Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon have teamed up for the next installment: a song called “Hero”. Update: It will be available for download on March 10 via Converse’s Tumblr.
In a statement, Diplo said:
The Clash were always teachers to me, even before I shared a studio with Paul and Mick. Their musical anarchy and constant attitude to disregard rules and forge their own path was inspirational to me. They meant death to genres, music and message above everything. Frank lives by the same creed in being married to his vision and seeing it through at any cost. We had to challenge each other to make something that we hope no one could expect and Converse valued everyone’s artistic freedom to let us shine throughout the past few months to make this thing happen.

It was July 17, 2012 & i stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up Channel Orange not knowing how it would be. I was about to go on a 25 hour road trip with my girlfriend from Toronto to Florida. After a whole day of driving it was 5am and i decided to finally put the CD in and the first 7 tracks literally numbed us, we didn’t say a word to each other but as soon as we looked at each other, we both knew that this trip was going to more than just reaching Disneyland. We were in another world, Franks world, his feeling, his pain, his emotions were soaring into us, but what happened next will stick with me forever. I felt hopeless, shocked, and in love, i looked over to my girlfriend and she had tears in her eyes. We were cruising down the highway when the sun was rising, slowly, beautifully. It was Orange, Pink & Yellow. But the most unparalleled moment was when we heard the second half of Pyramids in the background. It had to be the most perfectly timed moment, it was now about 6AM, we were alone on the highway listening to Frank talk about his love for Cleopatra. I parked the car on the side and just enjoyed the moment, grabbed my girl and told her i loved her. That’s what i wanted to share with you guys, the beauty of Frank Ocean, the perfection of Channel Orange. How it can literally define someone and a moment in their life. I know whatever Franks working on now is going to be better, something mature, a piece of music that will numb everyone’s pain & stress. I hope he’s safe, gathering inspiration, to once again Channel us into his thoughts.
